The Lantern Walk

Every night at 7, five doors light up across the Bend.

Every night the farolero lights five doors. Nobody has ever seen him do it. You just look up after supper and there it is — a little flame over a taqueria, a barber shop, a bakery that closed hours ago.

The old folks say he was the man who lit the street lamps downtown, back before the city switched to electric. The city forgot to tell him to stop. So he never did, y ya — the lamps changed, the man changed, the walk stayed.

Walk his route in order, all five doors, and the Kami waiting at the last one steps out of the light to meet you. Finish the walk and your name burns on everyone’s map until sunrise: your own lantern stamp, lit by the farolero himself.

Five stops, one hour of easy walking on the map. Miss a night? The streak forgives one — the farolero knows life happens.
